
A Medal as a tribute and witness of esteem to acknowledge excellence in historiography, historical research and writing in the context of Queensland history in any of its themes and disciplines.
John Douglas Kerr was a very important person to many historians,
particularly in Queensland. John – esteemed historian, statistician and writer – was a dedicated Councillor and Honorary Librarian of the Royal Historical Society of Queensland and a founder and Honorary Treasurer of the Professional Historians’ Association (Queensland).
Nominations for
the prestigious John Douglas Kerr Medal of Distinction, for research and writing of Queensland history,
open on 1 November 2011 and close on 31 March 2012. The award is made jointly by the Royal Historical Society of Queensland and the Professional Historians Association (Queensland).

The 2009 medal was presented on 6 June 2009, and the 2010 medal was
presented on 5 June 2010, the day before the sixth day of the sixth
month of the year when RHSQ celebrates Queensland Day.
In 2011 the presentation was on Monday 6 June at the Queensland
