Due to damage sustained from a partial collapse of the William Street frontage on 13 January 2011 the Commissariat Store closed temporarily. A huge effort on the part of the Queensland Government has resulted in great progress being made to get the Commissariat site operational again. Stone masons are still repairing the retaining wall, so there is no access to the ground floor for visitors or volunteers and no free parking.

The Store has re-opened and welcomes members and the public to visit for research purposes.

The Royal Historical Society of Queensland is well-known for its Welsby Library and our headquarters, the Commissariat Store at 115 William Street, Brisbane are open on Thursdays from 10 am to 3 pm and Hon Research Officers are available to assist researchers, and at other times by arrangement. Most of the research officers are experienced historians.

Available to researchers is the Welsby Library's incredible collection of items that are of interest to those researching Queensland's history. There are more than 4,984 books and booklets, 284 Brisbane files, 605 District files, 1,048 Family files, 1,051 Subject files, 21,783 photos which includes 4,702 digital images, 630 maps and plans and 2,361 archive files in the collection.

The Library also holds various Queensland Parliamentary Papers, Votes and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and Queensland Government Gazettes from 1861 to 1899.

The RHSQ's Welsby Library is normally an excellent place to start your research on many Queensland topics. To request help with a research question email your request. To help the Hon Researchers if you fill in the Request form and attach it that would be most appreciated.
